Woodville Mall tenants no longer allowed inside

NORTHWOOD, OH (WTOL) – Woodville Mall tenants will no longer be able to enter the building after being given a deadline of 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Tenants were given a one-week extension to move out but even with the extension, store owners have been working around the clock to move out of the space. Many of the tenants cannot afford to hire movers so they have been moving everything themselves.

A court order shut down the Woodville Mall due to various public safety hazards the mall's owner said he could not afford to fix. The order came on the eve of the holiday shopping season, leaving most shop owners without their busiest weeks.

One of the co-owners of The Gift Gallery said the entire experience has been an emotional roller coaster.

"It's been very, very emotional. From getting here, from having our hopes up, empty promises. Then pretty much the situation gets unveiled that nothing was going to get done about the issues that the mall has been having and the city steps in and closes us down. It's been pretty rough," said Amer Aswad.

Some tenants have already moved across town to the Great Eastern Shopping Center. The Aswads said they are ready to get out of the area and could even move to Michigan.
