WTOL Editorial: Investment raising hope in Northwest Ohio

(WTOL) - In case you haven't noticed, Northwest Ohio is the center for some significant capital investment.

I'm talking about $1.5 billion dollars and thousands of jobs. This means construction jobs and permanent positions thereafter.

Between now and the end of 2013 the following projects will be completed or underway:

  • Hollywood casino is about $300 million dollars and more than 1,000 jobs.
  • Chrysler is investing about $500 million dollars and will create about 2,000 jobs.
  • The Marina District will exceed $200 million dollars and deliver hundreds of jobs.
  • BX Solutions is taking over the BAX Global facility at the airport and if all goes as planned, it will expand and create jobs.
  • The Toledo Lucas County Port Authority is working hard to develop the site of the former Jeep Parkway Plant which will clearly result in new construction and hundreds of new jobs.
  • The Park Inn has been sold to an international investment group.

This is real progress.

It is the by-product of a progressive mayor working with corporate and political leaders to tell a powerful regional story.

It's time to stop seeing a glass half empty.

Step up. Be positive. Be engaged. It's time.

The recent decision of ProMedica's Board of Trustees to enter into a transfer agreement with Capital Care Network, Toledo's last remaining abortion facility, just doesn't make sense.
