(WTOL) - The Toledo Express Airport situation is causing a lot of hand wringing.

Although despair is in the air, is there hope?

According to the president of the Toledo Lucas County Port Authority, Paul Toth, the departure of BAX was anticipated and planned for.

In the end, the realities of the air cargo business smacked us in the face.

At some point the Port Authority will have a 280,000 sq. ft. facility to lease. It's ready for a manufacturer, warehouse or trucking company.

Toth would like to negotiate an early departure for BAX with a one-time payout.

Then the building can be leased to another business, the jobs will return, and the airport situation will improve.

He thinks this outcome will be favorable to taxpayers.

He also said it is unlikely the airport will ever be sold to a private entity, and that the airport is in absolutely no danger of closing.

Toth sounded concerned, not despondent.

I still think hands are wringing.

A bunch of things have to fall in place before those hands start clapping.
