GUEST EDITORIAL: United Way CEO says education most important concern

Bill Kitson, United Way President & CEO

Education: It's a hot topic right now. What's wrong with it, what's right with it and what we should be doing to fix it.

At United Way, we see education as the number one most pressing issue facing our community. Period.

Research shows it is the key to everything. Crime rates, a stable income, good health and the long-term sustainability of our economy and our community.

On July 19, United Way is hosting an education town hall to talk about the issues. We're going to share what we've heard in conversations with our neighbors over the last year.

We will also be sharing the good work others are doing in education. And most importantly, the community will have a chance to weigh in and ask questions.

Whether you join us for the town hall or not, we need everyone in our community to care about education.

Because the issue affects all of us, and it's going to take all of us pitching in to make a difference.

If you would like to get involved in the solution, visit our website, www.unitedwaytoledo.org or like us on Facebook.

You may be surprised what we can get done if we're all working together.

The recent decision of ProMedica's Board of Trustees to enter into a transfer agreement with Capital Care Network, Toledo's last remaining abortion facility, just doesn't make sense.
