GUEST EDITORIAL: Dean Monske sees a bright future for NW Ohio

Guest editorial from Dean Monske, president and CEO of the Regional Growth Partnership.

While we continue working through an unsettling economy, I am confident in making one statement of certainty: the face of the northwest Ohio region will be much different in the next 24 to 36 months. And by different, I mean positive, growing and exciting.

A major initiative for the Regional Growth Partnership is the attraction of international investment. With public, private and academic partners, we have already secured several deals with Chinese investors. In addition, the Regional Growth Partnership has opened two offices in China, further demonstrating our commitment in that marketplace.

The Regional Growth Partnership has also re-established its commitment to business development, facilitating both attraction and expansion projects. This commitment is necessary in order to capitalize on our outstanding talent and resources.

The key to this success is the collaborative spirit demonstrated among regional groups who have torn down the jurisdictional boundaries for the good of all, particularly businesses. Everyone understands the closer we work together the more opportunities we will have to improve and grow our region.

The recent decision of ProMedica's Board of Trustees to enter into a transfer agreement with Capital Care Network, Toledo's last remaining abortion facility, just doesn't make sense.
