Call 11 For Action: Stop sign runners frustrate neighbors

TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - People living in one West Toledo neighborhood are fed up with drivers blowing past stop signs.

It's happening along Kelly Avenue.

WTOL 11's Matt Wright tallied more than half of drivers speeding past stop signs at the intersection of Kelly and Fairfax Road over the course of an hour.

It has neighbors, like Tim Roth, worried.

"There are a lot of kids in this neighborhood, and I'm really concerned someone's going to get hurt," Roth said. "My grandson's three years-old, and you wouldn't see him if he ran in front of your car. Yeah we watch the kids to make sure that doesn't happen, but it only takes a heart beat."

Roth's car was totaled when a driver ran a stop sign and t-boned him at Kelly and Loxley Road in December. That was one of a dozen accidents on record along half-mile long Kelly in the past year. Roth says the problem has grown over the last nine months, in correlation with the construction along nearby I-475.

"It's gotten worse, it's gotten to a point where it's out of control, and that's not a good thing," Roth said.

WTOL 11 contacted the Toledo Police Department Traffic Section, which says it will step up enforcement in the neighborhood. If you have a similar dangerous situation in your neighborhood, you can contact the traffic division of your local police department.
