Last Saturday about 150 local teens registered to compete for a spot in the new Read To Me library commercials.

The try-outs took place at the Owens Community College Center for the Performing Arts.

For about 6 hours a wonderfully talented and diverse group of kids sang and smiled and talked to the judges.

Here's the best part: every kid had at least one parent, and sometimes both, standing beside them. This was a perfect exclamation point to the Read To Me campaign.

The love and wonder of reading is even more magical when it is shared one –person- to- another.

I want to thank Dr. Larry McDougle, the President of Owens Community College, and Mr. Clyde Scoles, the Director of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library System, for their personal involvement in this remarkable program.

There was something different and positive and uplifting going on. It was nice.
