TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Air Force Lt. Colonel Michael Masiker returned home Wednesday after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan.

Lt. Col. Masiker was originally scheduled to be deployed for only 6 months, but volunteered to stay another 6 months so that someone else wouldn't have to leave home.  During his deployment, he worked directly with the Afghan Air Force, teaching and training Afghani airmen.

Although Masiker has been in the Air Force for more than 40 years, he says leaving his family never gets easier.

Masiker's son was among the dozens of people at the airport awaiting his return.  "We're always really proud of him," said Josh Masiker. "It's always nice to know they're doing their thing so we can live the way we live over here."
