WTOL Editorial: When you no longer wear it, share it

By WTOL Vice President and General Manager Bob Chirdon - email

About a year ago, with your help, we launched the WTOL 11 Clothing Your Community initiative. The concept was simple: when you no longer wear it, share it.

Well the folks of northwest Ohio really stepped up to the plate, donating an incredible 80 tons of clothing.

With the tireless and generous support of some key sponsors and hundreds of volunteers, the clothes were collected, sorted by gender and size, then simply given away.

In the past year, more than 10,000 people received free clothing.

I never dreamed it would touch so many people in need. And the project was so successful, we now need more clothes.

As a result, the WTOL 11 Clothing Your Community drive will return this November.

We know there are thousands of folks who have clothes in their closets and dressers that they just don't wear. Please consider giving them to someone who will.
