Ohio is one of 37 states with a race for governor in November. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, a whopping 23 of these races are considered too close to call.
Incumbency is not necessarily a positive, particularly for Democrats. The topic that is dominating is the economy. Given the significant role Ohio has played in the past two presidential elections, it is no surprise that Governor Strickland's photo fronts the article. This race is a big deal to both parties. It should be a big deal to you.
The candidates will meet in only two televised debates. Toledo is the site for one of these, and WTOL 11 is where you can go to watch Strickland and Kasich thrust and parry. At 8 p.m. on Thursday October 7, Jerry Anderson will be right in the middle of it. So will a reporter from the Blade. I hope we see some courage and fireworks and not just a bunch of campaign sound bites.
The candidates need to face tough questions and should provide precise answers. If they won't or can't do so, then the voting decision should be obvious
