LAKE TOWNSHIP, OH (WTOL) - Less than two weeks after killer tornadoes destroyed Lake High School, Owens Community College offered a temporary location Wednesday.

In fact, the college has welcomed the 550 students, faculty and staff to use their Center for Development and Training building for as long as they need.

Lake Superintendent of Schools Jim Witt says their goal was to find a place that would accommodate the students, faculty and staff for 180 days.

"It's not perfect, it's not what the students might expect, but what we're willing to offer to the Lake students and community is some place to be able to be together as a group for this trying coming year," said Owens Community College Vice President John Satkowski.

The 53,000 square foot building is about half the size of Lake's old high school, but district officials say they will make it work.

In fact, the building is already equipped with most everything students need – and folks are even considering renovating part of the building to create a gym.

Lake School Board President Tim Krugh says most costs associated with the relocation should be covered under the district's insurance policy.

When students return to classes in August, they will see some familiar colors as officials say the will work to make the temporary facility look as much like Lake High as possible.

There is no word on when the school district will begin moving into the building, but folks will make sure the temporary school is ready for students this fall.

Owens classes that would normally take place in the building will be moved to the old Penta building.
