TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Crystal Bowersox's journey to stardom on American Idol has been exciting to watch, and it's also bringing some exposure to her alma mater: Toledo School for the Arts (TSA).

"I plan on being in musical theatre, and I guess just seeing Crystal Bowersox's success makes me feel like, if she's from TSA and she's doing so well, that I have chance to do well," said Robert Moody, TSA student.

TSA helps students develop their talents in an art-based curriculum. Based on an audition, the school decides what area of talent the student will develop.

In Bowersox's case, that was easy, says Martin Porter, TSA director. "She came in to interview for the school, and I ran down the hall and listened to her audition, and it was remarkable -- even at age 14 or 15, however old she was at that time."

Since Bowersox's debut on American Idol, Porter says demand to get into the school is higher than ever. Surprisingly, the school has no plans to grow on her success.

"We're small, and we don't intend to be very large. Our goal is to continue to be at 560 students," Porter said.
