TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) – The trial of an Ottawa Hills police officer accused of using excessive force when he shot a motorcyclist continued Tuesday.

Officer Thomas White has been charged with felonious assault for shooting 24-year-old Michael McCloskey, now paralyzed, during a traffic stop.

McCloskey testified Tuesday about the night he was shot in May 2009.

He says he and his friend Erin Snyder were riding their motorcycles and were headed to his place.

According to McCloskey, when they were about half a mile away, Snyder lost control of his cycle and McCluskey stopped.

He says he did not realize an officer was behind him -- and when he turned, heard someone yell, but could not make out what was said.

Then McCloskey says he heard a gunshot. He says once he fell off his bike, he begged White not to shoot him again.

White's attorney will have a chance to cross examine McCloskey Tuesday afternoon.

Dashcam video from White's cruiser was shown in court on Monday.

White's attorney says McCloskey and his friend were driving erratically. Once stopped, White says he saw McCloskey reach for something at his side, which he thought was a gun.

Investigators did find a boot knife on McCloskey.

White could face up to 11 years behind bars if found guilty of using excessive force.
