WTOL Editorial: Bullies must be dealt with swiftly and strongly

Bullying is a real problem in our society and it seems to be getting worse.

Recently a group of thoughtless and cruel high school students in Massachusetts tormented a young girl, Phoebe Nora Prince, who had just moved from Ireland.

Nobody stepped in to help as she was bullied so relentlessly she committed suicide.

In this era of You Tube, Facebook, texting and camera phones, nothing is off limits and there is no such thing as too much. So the cruelty just gets more vicious.

In Northwest Ohio some help is available. For example, The Toledo Children's Hospital Cullen Center provides therapy, support and behavioral programming for kids who experience the trauma of bullying.

But the real answer is to swiftly and strongly deal with the bullies. Bullying with modern technology is not funny and it is definitely not kids play. It is cruel, and hurtful and dangerous.

And it's time for parents, teachers and administrators to remember; we are the adults; we are in charge; and we declare that enough is enough.

The recent decision of ProMedica's Board of Trustees to enter into a transfer agreement with Capital Care Network, Toledo's last remaining abortion facility, just doesn't make sense.
