WTOL Editorial: Mall melee inexcusable, Toledo

The near riot at Westfield Franklin Park Mall on Saturday night should be a wake-up call to mall management, merchants and shoppers.

How screwed up are we when we let about 100 punk teenagers disrupt a multi-million dollar investment? These jerks brought the mall to its knees.

A News 11 investigation included a merchant who claimed this has been going on for some time. He said he was afraid and that shoplifting was out of control.

Does this sound like a place you want to shop? The Blade listed six prior incidents which included words like fight, brawl, attack, melee and stabbed in the chest.

The answer is simple: It's time to take control. Impose a rule that requires children under 18 to be accompanied by an adult after 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

ENOUGH ALREADY! Kick these troublemakers off the property and don't let them back.

The very survival of the mall is at stake. If you don't believe that's true, then do nothing. And nothing is just about how much business you will be doing on the weekends.

The recent decision of ProMedica's Board of Trustees to enter into a transfer agreement with Capital Care Network, Toledo's last remaining abortion facility, just doesn't make sense.
