(WTOL) - The American Red Cross is hosting a community wide memorial blood drive at the American Legion Hall in Green Springs to honor the memory of Alexa Brown all day Wednesday.

The organization hopes people will help honor cancer patients by giving blood as a way to recognize the role it can play in the care of people battling cancer.

Alexa died earlier this year after a long battle with brain cancer.

WTOL has been following the children who've been diagnosed with various forms of cancer in Clyde, Ohio for years.

Senator Sherrod Brown took the Clyde Cancer Cluster case to the floor of congress Wednesday.

Senator Brown said cancer is the number one cause of non-accidental death among children and encouraged his fellow congress members to support funding for cancer research.
