Toledo budget sees another bad month

TOLEDO (WTOL) - City of Toledo leaders received more bad news as they're trying to balance this year's budget.

On Thursday, September 24, a council committee found out tax collections through August were down by nearly $10 million compared to last year.

Revenues are falling and city overtime expenses increased by 7 percent this year, mainly for police and fire operations. "We should right now start reacting to where we're going to be in 2010 as opposed to waiting until sSptember 2010 and saying woest us again," said Council member Mike Collins.

While the city is preparing a new list of fire recruits, council is urging the mayor's office to begin the process to recruit new police officers.
