Boat fire in Ottawa County injures 1

DANBURY TOWNSHIP (WTOL) - Rescue crews responded to a boat fire at the Channel Grove Marina in Danbury Township.

Danbury police say four men were aboard:

  • Boat owner Harold Jackson, 85, of Marysville
  • Randy Jackson, 62, of Marysville,
  • Mike Bender, 69, of Marblehead
  • Roger Mabry, 78, of Milford Center

The boat was not based at Channel Grove, but the boaters had pulled into the marina for fuel.

The men fueled the boat, then noticed smoke in the engine after they pulled away. The engine then exploded. The men jumped into the water, and Harold Jackson suffered injuries. He was flown by air ambulance to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and is in critical condition.

The other three men were treated on scene. Some may have been taken to MacGruder Hospital in Port Clinton. We are still getting details on that.

The boat sunk. The U.S. Coast Guard remains on scene for pollution issues.
