Contest Guidelines

Team Regulations

  • Each team must consist of two - four students in grades 10 - 12, enrolled in a public, private, parochial, charter, or home school within ProMedica Health System's 27-county service area during the 2009 - 2010 school year. (See enclosed list of counties for details.)
  • It is recommended that the team incorporate one adult community partner of their choice to advise them as they design their entry.

Contest Rules

  • Create a health and fitness "kit" that can be given to elementary schools to increase the physical activity of the children enrolled in grades Kindergarten through 5.  Activities need to be engaging and fun for an elementary school audience.
  • Each contest entry must consist of a written proposal detailing the physical fitness campaign designed for elementary students in grades Kindergarten through 5.
  • Each contest entry must include a visual aid detailing the physical fitness campaign. (For example: a DVD, PowerPoint presentation, photographs, etc.)

  • Each entry must include a 20 - 30-minute health and fitness program for the students up to three times per week for one month. (Please no weightlifting exercises.)
  • Each entry must include specific details of the physical fitness activities in which the students will engage.
  • Each entry must include health information at least once per week.
  • Each entry must include a healthy snack option at least once per week.
  • Each entry must include a method for evaluating the program's progress/success. (For example: keeping track of miles walked, if the entry is a walking program),
  • Each entry must include a creative title for the program along with a slogan and a logo to promote the program in the elementary school.
  • Each entry must include a plan for advertising the program and encouraging participation by students (For example: flyers, posters, school newsletter articles, letters to parents, etc).
  • Contest entry can incorporate expenses up to $500. Please include a detailed budget plan. (Examples of items to purchase: prizes, equipment, posters, etc.)
  • Each entry should answer the following questions:

1.  How does this entry increase the physical activity of the elementary school        students?

2.  Is this entry creative and engaging for the elementary school students, and does            it encourage participation?

3.  Does the entry fulfill the elements listed above in the contest rules?

Enter ProMedica Health System's Fields of Green scholarship competition and win a $5,000 college scholarship! The Fields of Green scholarship program challenges teams of two to four students in grades 10 - 12 to design a health and fitness program "kit" for elementary school students including activities and promotional materials.  Each member of the winning team will receive a $5,000 college scholarship, and our school will receive a $1,000 cash award, too. In addition, ProMedica will produce the winning entry as a pilot program in a local elementary school in 2010.
