Konop unveils plan for deadbeat properties

TOLEDO (WTOL) - Democratic mayoral candidate Ben Konop wants deadbeat property owners to clean up their act.

He has a plan that calls for city employees to volunteer their time mowing grass, pulling weeds and cleaning up trash on the properties. The city would then bill the absent landlords.

"We don't have the resources within the City of Toledo right now to do all these important tasks, to clean up all these lots, help all these neighborhoods that need help during normal business hours, so we have to encourage volunteerism," Konop said.

Konop adds that sponsoring businesses can step up to cover the program's maintenance costs. Money collected from fined property owners will then refund these businesses.
