Could cash for appliances be the next big thing?

Jeff Podgorski is the sales manager at the Appliance Center in Maumee. He says he's looking forward to a government-run, Cash for Clunkers type of program coming to his industry. "It'd be a rebate from the government regarding the best energy saving appliances," he said.

The rebate would be up to $200. The appliances that would most likely be included are big energy users like air conditioners, dish washers, washing machines, dryers, freezers, refrigerators and hot water heaters.

The idea behind the program is to get inefficient appliances out of peoples homes and to continue to stimulate the economy.

This program, set to launch at the end of November, is a state-by-state program. That means each state could opt in or out, and there is no word yet on whether Ohio will take part.
