Imagination Station Sets Opening Date

Welcomes Traveling Exhibit Circus!

The Imagination Station is proud to announce that our Grand Opening will be Saturday, October 10th, and will immerse visitors of every age in a multi-sensory experience that's as fun as it is educational.  Having successfully merged the best of the former COSI Toledo exhibits with dynamic new additions and enhancements, over $1 million in renovations has taken place to create a destination where families can explore, learn and grow together.  This revitalization could not have been possible without the support of Lucas County residents, the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission and all of our dedicated members and continued supporters.

Longtime favorites like the High Wire Bicycle, Zing!2000 Simulator, the Gravity Room in MindZone and the BOYO continue to balance the fresh décor. Even more energizing are the new exciting exhibits such as the Ball Launcher where you hoist a bowling ball high over a cylinder and just let go; the Giant Lever where you can impress your friends by single-handedly beating several of them in tug-of-war; experience Hurricane-Force winds in the WaterWorks area; create your true masterpiece with the Intelligent Guitar in MindZone; immerse yourself in Science Studio, the hub of hands-on science exploration, where visitors can dig in, be amazed and learn in the process; and for the youngest of visitors explore a pint-size fire truck, imaginary grocery store and a toddler water table in our updated KidSpace, to name just a few.

Opening day, we'll be welcoming our first traveling exhibit, Circus!, which uses science to explore the wonder of circus through 23 interactive exhibits that will amaze, thrill, perplex and entertain! Visitors can learn about the physics of juggling; the biology of animals; the psychology of fear of heights by walking the High Wire (20 feet in the air); and the physiology of circus performances by experiencing the trapeze bars first hand.

The Imagination Station is the former COSI Toledo, which closed its doors December 31, 2007.  After a levy win in November, 2008, the science center was transformed into the Imagination Station, so named after a 'naming contest' took place last spring. With over 2000 contributions submitted, 11 separate individuals submitting the name Imagination Station, the final selection was chosen by the Board of Directors and announced on June 29, 2009.  Massive renovations have been taking place to prepare the expansive museum for the October opening.

"We're excited to be honoring our commitment to the voters by offering an exciting, state-of-the-art facility that continues to help kids of all ages learn about science through fun, hands-on experiences." said Lori Hauser, Imagination Station's Executive Director.  "We are looking forward to hearing the sound of laughter permeate the walls, the sense of wonder fill the air, but mostly we are excited about fulfilling our promise to the community of offering high quality, educational programming that entertains, educates and inspires future generations."

The Imagination Station opens to the public on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 10:00am, with a Member's Only Preview the night before on Friday, October 9, from 6:00-8:00pm.
