LUCAS COUNTY, OHIO (WTOL) - The Lucas County commissioners are fighting for two local post offices. The commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday, Aug. 11 calling for the U.S. Postal Service (U.S.P.S.) to keep the Midtown and Point Place branches open.
Commissioner Ben Konop and neighbors living near those branches say operations can be relocated to smaller, more efficient buildings.
"We have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. We have one of the highest bankruptcy rates, foreclosure rates, this is not the community in all of America to close post offices," says Konop.
The tough economy has the U.S.P.S. looking to cut costs, and branch closures are a possible option.
