TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Toledo's mayor says city council is playing politics by not enacting his suggestions to fill an 8.9 million dollar budget deficit.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner also says he will vote against the Safety First Issue this election, even after saying he would support it for a year.

He says further layoffs are possible in the city, but also claims Toledo is already the leanest city in Ohio and we can't afford layoffs.

The mayor says he's not happy with council's actions.

"What is deplorable is council's inaction on the options that we have presented over the past half-year that would have helped balance the city's budget," says Finkbeiner.

Council President Joe McNamara says the mayor has zero credibility with council.
