Bell calls for Toledo post offices to remain open

Mike Bell is holding a press conference Monday, August 10 to call for the post office to look at other options before closing two Toledo post offices. Under national cuts, two post offices are marked for closure in Toledo: Point Place on Summit St. and Midtown on Dorr. St.

A press release from Mike Bell's campaign office:

Mike Bell will call for the USPS to examine other cost saving options as an alternative to closing two Toledo area post offices at a press conference Monday, August 10 at 1:30 p.m.

The press conference will be in front of the Point Place branch post office at 4445 N. Summit St. He will be joined by local residents and business owners as he drops in the mail a letter to the Postmaster General asking for alternative options to be examined for these locations.

Due to heavy financial losses, the USPS has recommended a study to examine closing approximately 3,200 postal locations across the country. Locally, the Point Place branch and the Midtown station on Dorr St. are at risk of closure - and these neighborhoods would lose an important resource for traditional commerce and communication.

Toledo's former fire chief and former State Fire Marshal, Mr. Bell is running for Mayor as an Independent. He grew up in North Toledo and his parents still live there. One of the main reasons he returned from his job in Columbus to enter the Mayor's race was to help preserve Toledo's unique neighborhoods.
