The numbers are up at Fostoria's Bureau of Concern - figuratively and literally.

The Bureau of Concern will host a bingo fundraiser Friday, Aug. 7, at the Fostoria Middle School. Doors will open at 5 p.m., bingo will start at 6 p.m. Along with bingo, the event includes a 50/50 raffle. Food will also be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the event will help cover costs of running the Bureau of Concern.

"It's basically to help us keep going," Bureau of Concern executive director Mary Ziegler said.

A similar bingo event raised nearly $1,000 for the organization last April, Ziegler said.

The Bureau of Concern provides information and referral services for those in need of food, utility assistance, housing, medical, transportation and other services. The organization also aids families by providing Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, and helps local ministries with the distribution of school supplies to low-income families before the start of the school year.

Ziegler said that recently, more people have been using the Bureau of Concern's services than have in past years.

"The demand is up," Ziegler said. "That makes it even harder.

"You give out what you can if you can do it. If the supply is the same as it was last year, and the demand is up, there's not much you can do."

Ziegler said the organization is getting ready to enter one of he busiest times of the year, when students returning to school will need help with clothing and supplies.

For more information on the event, contact the Bureau of Concern at 419-435-4357.
