Council members propose solution to driveway parking tickets

If municipal code changes are approved, it will not be a violation to park in an unpaved driveway. However, it still requires property owners to go through the proper zoning.

TOLEDO (WTOL) - Local leaders think they've got a solution to some controversial parking tickets.

What is being proposed are changes to the municipal code dealing with parking. Council members in favor of the changes call it a "common sense" approach to settling the recent controversy over parking tickets on residential properties.

On Monday, July 27, Council Members Mike Collins, George Sarantou and Tom Waniewski announced they're supporting this plan. If approved it will not be a violation to park in an unpaved driveway. However, it still requires property owners to go through the proper zoning and planning channels to make significant changes to their property. This proposed solution does not give Toledoans the green light to park their cars wherever they want to.

"It protects the integrity of the neighborhood, and at the same time provides for residents who live on streets where they were annexed or areas where there was annexation to allow them to park their cars without the fear of getting a ticket," said Mike Collins.
