CLYDE, OH (WTOL) - It was a Father's Day to be remembered...a day that made every father at The Church on 53 hug their kids a little tighter...
"To this point in my life this will be the most unforgettable Father's Day I have ever experienced," says Warren Brown, Alexa Brown's father. Alexa is the little girl from Clyde News 11 has been following.
It was a short ceremony, but packed with emotion for everyone involved.
Sunday the church announced the motorcycle "Ride for Cylde" raised over $20,000 for two families with children battling cancer, the Browns and the Hiseys.
Larry Powers, who participated in the "Ride" says, "It's rewarding. Very rewarding."
The sum shocked Dave Hisey, whose children also received funds. "I wasn't prepared for that. It was amazing. It was truly amazing."
During the ceremony Pastor Matt asked all who volunteered to stand. Almost no one stayed seated. Wendy Brown, Alexa's mother, says that is a testimony to the love and support they have received.
"It was just a whole array of emotions--just in the 20 minutes I was here--but it was wonderful. Just the support and love from this whole congregation is just indescribable."
A difficult situation pulling at the families' heart strings, but the financial burden pulling at their purse strings shows just how important Saturday's event was to both families.
"It means that Alexa's $500 a month nutrition supliment plan is covered for a year," says Warren.
But it was a bittersweet moment as their a joy was met with longing, longing for a victory in the battle with cancer that little Alexa Brown is fighting everyday.
