TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - The weather held out and Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner came out to cut the grass Saturday morning.
The weather may not have been great, but for Joe Hojmacki seeing his mayor cut grass in the city park was a beautiful sight.
"There he goes," says Hojmacki, watching the mayor walk back and forth. "At least he's not cutting cut grass, he's cutting grass that needs to be cut. Living across from Carty has always been something to cherish!"
The mayor says he is going to see this one through.
"I'm going to be cutting grass every Saturday morning until we get caught up," says Mayor Finkbeiner. "The greatest benefit is citizens seeing those bureaucrats down at One Government Center are willing to get off their duff instead of sitting in their office and get out and help do their part to make the city safer and cleaner and healthier."
As for those who criticize his initiative?
"Who cares about critics?" Finkbeiner stated. "Most of them sit on their front porches and have nothing better to do with their time than be a critic. Give me the doers!"
As for Joe Hojmacki, he says he'd be willing to pitch in.
"Sure, why not? I'll keep the front part cut. If everyone is willing to chip in I'll do my part."
The mayor says he will probably be cutting grass until June.
