Mayor does not attend annual police memorial

TOLEDO (WTOL) - The annual Toledo Police memorial ceremony took place Friday afternoon, May 8. Mayor Finkbeiner was scheduled to speak at the event, but his office says he was called to Chicago.

The mayor's office says he is meeting with two bond reviewers -- S&P and Moody's. They evaluate the city's financial situation to determine rates by which the city can borrow money for improvement projects.

Some police officers at the memorial told News 11 crime reporter Lisa Rantala they are glad Mayor Finkbeiner did not attend, given the tension of the contract negotiations and low morale after the 75 layoffs.

The last officer killed in the line of duty was Detective Keith Dressel. Watch the featured video for the full report by Lisa Rantala.
