EAST TOLEDO (WTOL) - An east Toledo family needs to find another place to stay after their home went up in flames early Saturday, May 2.
The fire broke out in the 600 block of Whitlock Avenue around 1:30 a.m.. When fire crews arrived, they found smoke and flames shooting from the house along with live power lines that had fallen in the back yard. The live lines forced them to wait for the power to be shut off before checking inside.
Nobody was home at the time, but the owner showed up a short time later and could hardly believe what had happened.
Family members got the call that my house was on fire, but I thought it was just a joke until I pulled up and saw all this," said Frederick Thomas.
Thomas went on to say that he had a couple pots on the stove before he left for the night. It's unclear if that played any role in starting the blaze.
