The cost of registration is $20 and T-shirts will be provided if available.  There will also be a concurrent children's race.  After the race, awards will be given and refreshments served.  The race will be timed by the Toledo Road Runners and times will be registered with Runners' World Magazine.

WHY: Because dentists in Toledo care about our underserved community.  Dental care is the number one un-met health need in the United States and in the State of Ohio.  Many families are experiencing difficult choices due to the current economic situation.  Toledo dentists care about the dental health of children and adults who have trouble accessing dental care.

This event was initiated as a reaction to an article in The Blade indicating that dentists across the country were doing very well financially, despite the fact that there were many patients who could not get access to dental care. This notion stimulated several members of the Toledo Dental Society as well as several members of the Toledo Dental Hygiene Association, to form a subcommittee of the Toledo Dental Society.  The mission of the Miles For Smiles committee is to help fund dental care for the underserved and underprivileged citizens of Toledo and Northwest Ohio. The Miles For Smiles motto is to "have fun, get fit, give back."

SIGNIFICANCE: The first recipient of all proceeds from the Miles For Smiles Event will be the Dental Center of Northwest Ohio. The Miles For Smiles Committee chose to partner with the Dental Center of Northwest Ohio primarily because of our similar missions: to help the underserved populations receive dental care. The Dental Center of Northwest Ohio is a non-profit dental clinic that provides dental care and services to many people who are unable to pay for this basic health need.  The contributions will help provide dental care for children and adults who would otherwise not be able to afford treatment.  Because of the Dental Center of Northwest Ohio's non-profit status, all contributions are tax deductible.
