I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of this stalemate between the police union and the mayor. It's gone on long enough and should never have gotten to this point.

There have been plenty of poor choices made by both sides, so the blame game needs to end. Many of us, maybe even most of us, have had to accept pay cuts, pay freezes, increased costs for benefits, and the loss of corporate contributions to our 401k's.

This stinks, but that's just the way it is.

When it comes to labor contracts, fairness has never been a constant state. Fair is a condition that exists on a sliding scale relative to the prevailing economic conditions.

Right now, those conditions are not good. The benefits package that has been in place for a long time was overly generous to begin with. And just where was the mayor when all those concessions were being made?

So I say to both sides of this negotiation, shut up, suck it up, and sit down and get a deal done. I'm willing to bet that a lot of people out there are looking at their own situations and are wondering what all the whining is about.
