Mayor vs. police officers in court Tuesday

TOLEDO (WTOL) - The union for the Toledo Police Department's command officers will lay out its case before a judge Tuesday, April 28.

The union has requested a temporary restraining order to stop the layoffs of 20 command officers on Friday. The union says that violates their contract. The city disagrees.

The mayor's Chief of Staff Robert Reinbolt and Chief of Police Mike Navarre will be called to testify.

Council meeting

Toledo City Council also meets Tuesday and could take action to stop the layoffs of more than 200 city employees, including police officers.

Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbiener is urging council members to approve three proposals to help reduce the budget deficit and cut back on the number of layoffs.

Keith Wilkowski gets involved

Toledo mayoral candidate Keith Wilkowski wants the police layoffs stopped. On Tuesday, he will ask the city and the police patrolman's union to return to the bargaining table.

Both sides were unable to reach an agreement on concessions and aren't set to meet again until May 28. A total of 150 police officers will be laid off Friday.
