Report: Pipe bombs found in Detroit casino are fake

Associated Press - April 19, 2009 10:24 PM ET

DETROIT (AP) - Police say three pipe bombs found in a parking garage at Motor City Casino have been safely detonated but are fake.

Michigan State Police tell Detroit radio station WWJ that a total of 7 pipe bombs have been found.

Casino spokeswoman Jacci Woods says patrons have been told they must remain in restaurants or gambling areas and cannot retrieve their cars. She tells the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News that patrons are being given complimentary food and beverages while they wait.

Police spokesman James Tate would not say why there was not an evacuation.

The Associated Press left telephone messages seeking further comment from Tate and Woods.
