Konop says he has plan to keep Toledo safe

From a news release:

(WTOL) - Toledo mayoral candidate Ben Konop is proposing ways to keep citizens safe even after the layoff of 150 members of the Toledo police force.

Konop will announce his plan at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Secor Carryout on 3241 Dorr St.

Konop will call for a greater comprehensive effort among business owners, the police department, and even trash collectors to work with 21st century technology to create a safer Toledo.

"With police cuts looking more and more likely, we must be creative and proactive to ensure that Toledoans' public safety is not put at risk," Konop said. "And it looks like more of us are going to have to pitch in. My initiatives will not come at any added cost to taxpayers but will provide them with more protection at a time of greater threat."

Konop's plan includes formalizing a systematic, coordinated, information exchange program between small businesses in high crime areas and police.

Also included in Konop's plan is a stronger commitment to computerized statistical crime analysis.
