(WTOL) - The pennies have been piling up at local libraries. We now know how much money has been raised for a great cause.

The Toledo-Lucas County Library collected more than $600 in pennies during the last two months.

The Stranahan Foundation will match the amount, totaling almost $1300.

The money will buy a year of tutoring for seven adults in the Read for Literacy program.

"A lot of pennies today are almost, for a some of people, throw-aways. Here's a project that creatively turned them into an important benefit for a lot of people," said Jim Funk with Read for Literacy.

The event was in celebration of Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday.
