Toledo's largest church kicks off Easter services

PERRYSBURG, OH (WTOL) - Toledo's largest church kicked off a weekend of Easter services Friday night.  CedarCreek Church is hosting a total of 16 services between its Perrysburg and Toledo campuses.

The main focus is celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but the church is also reaching out to a community hit hard by the struggling economy.  Kroger donated 15,000 grocery bags that the church will be handing out at every service.  They're asking people to fill them with food and other items, then bring the filled bags back next week.  The items will be donated to The Cherry Street Mission.

The Mission is currently struggling to keep up with the needs of the community.

"Hunger is no respecter of the calendar," said CedarCreek Senior Pastor Lee Powell.  "The economic conditions dictate that we do this."

On Saturday, Powell said attendance at this year's Easter services is already up from last year. "We're trying to respond to a need in our community and our city and so, really, we don't see any other alternative than to do this."

Easter services will be held Saturday at 3:30, 5:15 and 7:00 p.m.  Sunday services are scheduled for 9:00, 10:45 and 12:30.

The Perrysburg campus is located at 29129 Lime City Road.  The Toledo campus is located at 2600 W. Sylvania Ave.  The Whitehouse campus is currently under construction and scheduled to open sometime later this year.
