4 Toledo prison guards stabbed by inmate

TOLEDO (AP, WTOL) - Four prison guards at the Toledo Correctional Institute are recovering after being stabbed by an inmate.

It happened just after 2 p.m. Monday, April 6 at the facility on east Central. According to a prison spokeswoman, the attack happened in a housing area.

Andrea Carson with the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction says the four men were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not life threatening. Three of the guards were released after treatment.

The male inmate was treated at the prison's hospital ward and was then put in isolation.

Names have not been released.

Carson declined to say how the stabbing occurred or to identify the weapon. She says prison administrators and the State Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate.
