March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
This month, ProMedica Cancer Institute encourages you to call your Friend for Life and tell them about the importance of the early detection of colorectal cancer. Not counting skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer found in men and women in the United States. The risk of a person having colorectal cancer in their lifetime is about 1 in 19.
In most cases, colorectal cancers develop slowly over many years. Most of these cancers begin as a polyp—a growth of tissue that starts in the lining and grows into the center of the colon or rectum. Removing a polyp early may keep it from becoming cancer.
ProMedica Cancer Institute offers comprehensive cancer care to patients across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, including prevention and education programs. For more information about ProMedica Cancer Institute, call 877-291-1441.
