BASCOM (WTOL) - Students and faculty at the Hopewell-Loudon School in Bascom, just outside Tiffin, are mourning the loss of one of their own: 18-year-old Ian Kuhn.
Kuhn and two others were traveling east on Seneca County Road 18 just before 9 p.m. Thursday, March 19 when the driver over corrected, rolling the car several times.
Kuhn was pronounced dead at the scene while 19-year-old Andrew Biddle and 18-year-old Ashely Harrison were taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center by air ambulance.
Kuhn was an all-conference linebacker for the Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains. More than that, he was beloved by all. He's described as an extremely popular and well-liked kid.
Ian's football coach, Brian Colatruglio remembers, "He liked to take care of his little brother. He wouldn't let those guys pick on him, even though he was a freshman. He really stood up for him and, it's a huge loss for his family and for all of us."
To make matters worse, Hopwell-Loudon is a K-12 school, so everyone from little ones to peers knew Ian. He was their football star. "Everybody is involved. Everybody knows Ian. Everybody knows what happened, and everybody knows the family to different degrees," said Superintendent Geoff Palmer.
Palmer adds that counselors from surrounding school districts have been on hand to help everyone cope with the loss.
Biddle is reported in fair condition and Harrison in serious condition at St. Vs. Ohio State Highway Patrol says alcohol is not believed to be a cause in this accident.
