TOLEDO (WTOL) - City officials will file an application Monday for federal funding to keep police officers on the job. The grant is for $34 million in economic stimulus money from the Department of Justice.
On Friday, March 13, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner announced 75 officers will be laid off May 1. The move is to help combat a growing budget deficit.
If approved, the grant could save those 75 officers and allow more to be hired.
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur says Toledo has a good chance of being considered for the grant funds.
