SANDUSKY (WTOL) - College student Jessie Stradter drove four hours to audition before the Cedar Point judges, hoping to land a summer job.

She sings and dances but knows the economy will play a big role in her future.

Her dream is to perform, but her reality is a job in the medical field. That's why she's majoring in dental hygiene. "I figure its more practical, and I can do theater and music on the side, as well as having a daytime job," Stradter told News 11.

Jessie is one of hundreds trying to step their way into summer work at America's Roller Coast. The park is already getting record response for job postings. Cedar Point leaders say those positions, once thought to be just for college students, are looking more appealing to more mature workers.

"You're finding people who may not have considered working for an amusement park or doing a six-month job -- now, because of the way economic conditions are, a lot more people are looking for jobs. They're expanding their resources."

Cedar Point is still taking applications online and hosting more interview sessions.

For Jessie, the process is far from over. She has to wait three weeks before finding out if she landed a job. She's just one of thousands waiting for work.
