WTOL Editorial: Toledoans expect better from city leaders

So the voters of Toledo came together yet again to support this city. Why? Because they expect better.

They want the streets plowed, the potholes fixed, the garbage collected. They want police to crack down on gangs and crack houses. They want a school system where the kids can pass marginal proficiency tests and graduate. They are frustrated by the school board.

They are tired of city council not getting anything done. They want jobs created -- they don't care who gets the credit. They don't care much about international awards either.

They do care deeply when the mayor's bone-headed decisions damage the reputation of the city they love.

And, members of the black community have told me they are tired of being neglected and taken for granted.

In spite of all of this, Toledoans still voted "yes."

I think this "yes" was really a vote by the people, for the people. And it comes with a warning that things better get better -- quickly.

I hope the politicians in town don't think this vote was a "yes" vote for them.
