TOLEDO, Ohio (WTOL) - The windows at 1510 Elm St. in north Toledo have been boarded up and painted over.
The warehouse is a scene in one of Toledo's unsolved murders. In September, Toledo police found the body of 21-year-old Cindy Sumner in the basement of the warehouse.
Cindy's mom, Mary, says she chokes up every time she passes by the building.
"It tears me up knowing that she was in there," Mary said.
At the urging of Mary Sumner, Toledo Municipal Court Judge C. Allen McConnell ordered the city to board up the building because it's a public nuisance. Workers wrapped up the project Wednesday.
"I think they've complied with my order. I don't see there's any way they could get into the building based on what they've already done," said McConnell.
The order cost the city $4500 plus labor. The city plans to track down the Florida owner and send him the bill. If he doesn't pay, the bill will go into collections.
Mary hopes the eyesore will be demolished and a memorial park built on the site honoring Cindy's memory. In the meantime, Mary honors Cindy's memory with a gold charm that has Cindy's fingerprint imprinted on it.
"It's a part of Cindy, and I always know she's in my heart," Mary said.
