Motown celebrates 50 years with hometown gala

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) - The birthplace of the Motown sound plans to make some more noise in honor of the record label's 50th anniversary.

The Motown Historical Museum - the original home of Motown Records Corp. - kicks off its Motown 50 Golden Gala weekend Friday with a party honoring Motown alumni at Detroit's Roostertail
restaurant. Members of the Miracles and others will be giving out autographed photos to fans.

The event is the opening act for the main attraction Saturday at downtown's Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center: an evening of tributes and scheduled performances by Aretha Franklin, The Temptations and duet partners Stevie Wonder and Kid Rock. Motown founder Berry Gordy plans to appear.

Tickets start at $350 and proceeds benefit the museum.
