FOSTORIA, OHIO (WTOL) - Since April of 2006, the Tri-County Fostoria Zero Tolerance Task Force has been helping Fostoria police combat drugs. But a shortfall in funding from the Greater Fostoria Community Foundation is shutting the task force down.

Of the three counties, Wood County pulled out earlier this year while Hancock and Seneca counties will pull out later this month.

That has some Fostoria moms worried.

"I do live in a bad area... and I want the drugs out," one mom said.

In just the first few months of service, the task force arrested 87 people for drug crimes. In 2007, 120 arrests were made and in 2008, nearly 70. So far this year, there have been 25 arrests.

Not everybody's concerned, however.

Doris Medina owns a downtown business and thinks since deputies won't be patrolling the streets, Fostoria's police will step up to the plate.

"Money is always a big problem and without them, I'm sure our police force can do a great job too," Medina said.

Fostoria Mayor John Davoli says the bulk of what happened in the past three years is a result of the Fostoria police rather than the task force.

"I'm appreciative that they (the task force) were here for a few years. On the other end, I'm not overly concerned about it because we've got a heck of a police department here," Davoli said.

The last day Fostoria residents will see task force in action will be Nov. 30.
