TOLEDO, Ohio (WTOL) - A two week investigation reveals some members of a University of Toledo fraternity, Kappa Delta Rho, participated in hazing rituals.

UT’s Interim Dean of Students Michele Martinez says the entire chapter has been placed on a year's suspension. This will allow time to find new leadership and turn the fraternity around. The organization will be barred from most student and Greek activities. After that, the frat will be placed on a year's probation.

Kappa Delta Rho represents more than a century of tradition, dating back to 1905. The UT chapter dates back to 1982.

School officials say two frat members took part in an outlawed hazing ritual. Martinez says a student came forward Oct. 26 to report the incident. The incident was confirmed with the help of campus police, and a representative of the frat's national office.

She adds much of it happened off campus, but didn't reveal details of the incident -- citing federal privacy laws.

“Forms of hazing can be psychological abuse.  It can be physical abuse, it can be mental abuse,” said Martinez.

Responding to the allegations, the frat's national office sent a written statement. Executive Director Joseph Rosenberg says he cannot comment on the incident, but does say several brothers did not follow policies and procedures and will be held accountable, as hazing is contrary to its motto of honor above all things.

Meantime, UT is sending statements to students, too. “It helps our students understand our policies and procedures and how to participate in organizations to have fun but to be safe,” said Martinez.
