TOLEDO, Ohio (WTOL) - Casinos are on their way to Ohio and for folks in east Toledo, that means they're going to have a new neighbor. But many are welcoming the casino with open arms.

"If I had my choice the casino would be down at port side but since we do need a casino in Toledo," said Sandy Anderson, who lives across the street from the casino site. "I'm just as glad it's going to be here..."

"I think it is going to improve the neighborhood somewhat," said resident Gary Wamer. "I think we will get more attention from the city."

Many east Toledo residents like the idea. New jobs are one reason neighbors support the casino. After being unemployed for a year, Linda Papulias says she will be first in line to submit her application. She says the casino ill be within walking distance from her house.

Sandy Anderson says she is worried about traffic, but says casinos are a win for Toledo. "Toledo needs the money and I am hoping it will bring jobs... and a reason to come to Toledo."

Many neighbors heard rumors about companies buying them out of their houses. While some say they won't go, others say it's a good thing.

The area seems to be split 60 to 40 percent about a casino in the neighborhood.

The 40 percent not in favor of the casino say they'll see how situations are handled once the  casino is built.

"I go to Detroit and gamble... I see what the neighborhoods around there look like and I guess I am just afraid that is going to happen to our houses," said Dawn Willis.

"I don't expect change," Sandy Anderson added. "I don't think people are going to move out because of it."

No decisions have been made to buy out neighbors' homes across the street from the casino site.
