TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - Some Owens Community College nursing students outraged over their school losing its nursing accreditation are ready to move on.

They've been worried since Owens lost its accreditation from the National League for Nursing that they'll lose potential job opportunities.

They took a step forward tonight to make the switch to the University of Toledo, which claims its accreditation is rock solid.

Owens nursing student Jennifer Howard has been troubled.

"I've been worried honestly that none of my credits were even good," says Howard.

It was a huge shock when she learned Owens Community College lost its nursing accreditation, so she came to an informational session Wednesday night at UT's College of Nursing.

She'll stay at Owens to finish off her prerequisite courses, but says she can't afford to stay there.

"It pretty much means you are stuck in one spot and if you were to go into a different state you would have to re-do all of your schooling. Which I guess isn't really a good thing," says Howard.

The Dean of UT's College of Nursing warns that only high quality Owens students will be able to transfer there.

"If there's a way that those students from Owens choose to make a change in their journey and their study, and UT has the opportunity to help them, we are more than happy to facilitate that," says Dr. Tim Gaspar.

The informational meeting offered some relief for students left desperate by the turn of events at Owens.

Christy Bolley says she feels, "much better now after the info session. They straightened out a lot of. There's a lot of rumors going around Owens, so yeah this was really informational and I really enjoyed it."

They have to maintain a strong grade point average to even be considered.

"I have no problem doing that because I have a 19-month-old son and I need to do my best so he has a better life," says Howard.

She hopes to transfer to UT next fall.
